I was born in Rapid City, SD and raised in Sturgis, SD. I attended Sturgis Brown High School where I first discovered my love of working with children during an internship at Sturgis Elementary. After graduating from high school, I attended the University of South Dakota for my first year of college and then transferred to Black Hills State University where I attained my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I completed my student teaching experience at Sturgis Elementary in a 2nd grade classroom and was thrilled when I was offered a position as a first grade teacher at the same school. This will be my fifth year teaching first grade and I am beyond excited for all the adventures this school year will bring. In my free time I enjoy mountain biking, skiing, camping, playing softball, playing volleyball, organizing, and spending time with friends and family. I am constantly on the go and like to spend as much time as I can outside. An active body leads to an active mind, which is especially important for first graders! We spend a lot of time moving around in our classroom, as we like to keep our learning engaging and exciting! All students are great learners. Students may need to be given different tools, or may need to be taught in different ways, but each student can be successful in the classroom. I believe that creating a classroom that has a safe and positive environment will encourage students to learn naturally. I strive to establish a personal relationship with each of my students so that their education can be founded on trust, comfort, and confidence. |
